Mastering The Play

The first amount of money you ever make at a game of poker is called the rake. The rake is the amount of money the house takes from each hand. It’s like a fee for every single hand played at a table. The amount taken from each hand varies by limits, but is generally anywhere from 5% to 10% of the pot.

The way the house makes their money is they have a dealer. The dealer is who acts as dealer for every hand on every round. The dealer button (or buck) rotates around the table one player at a time. The player with the dealer button is super dealer and is responsible for paying the blinds, keeping the proper order of the blinds, paying the winners and collecting the small and large blinds.

The blinds are the amount of chips you have to place in the pot before the dealer makes your hand. The blinds are put in by the players on the dealer button. This is the most important person at the table because they are the ones forced to put in the chips to the pot. The blinds are always relative to the big blind; so if the blinds are $1/$2, the blinds are $2/$4, $3/$6 and $4/$8, then the blinds are $4, $3, $5 and $6. When you play poker online, all the money is put in the pot relative to the blinds.

The big blind is the smallest stake in a poker game. The largest stake in a poker game is the $10/$20 tables. The $10/$20 games are very popular in casinos because players tend to bet a little larger amount of money than they do in a $1/$2 game. $10 is the minimum bet on these tables.

The small blind is sometimes called the “ante.” The $1/$2 tables have a betting area that is composed of just under half the pot, referred to as the “small blind.” The $10/$20 games are also often called “tiers” or “nuts.” For these betting areas, players must bet the same amount as the bankroll it represents. Players do not bet on these tables, so no one even notices when no one bets.

After the blinds are put in, the dealer deals each player two cards face down. One of the cards is face down, immediately underneath the player’s hole cards, and the other is face up, above the hole cards.

Now is when the player must decide to call, raise or fold. Generally speaking, calling is raising, and folding is folding. If you are not happy with your hand, you can fold, but since this is the outmal way to play, few people do. Most players with some self-management and discipline go on to win money at these tables.

After you have seen the flop if you have position, you should bet the size of the pot, raise or fold. If you want the strongest hand, bet the size of the pot. If you have a marginal hand, let the pot build for a little while before you raise the Raise Urban Legend. Remember, most hands win some hands, and they all lose some hands. It is almost inconsequential at this point to bet against your pocket King/Queen. Your lost hands go undetected because the small blinds are not paying attention to you.

However, it is also important to recognize blinds might not hit their flops. If you are last to act and all others have folded, you can choose to take the blinds uncontested, since you have no hand and no real chance of losing.

Ultimately, the late position is largely reserved for playing Dewavegas. If you make a hand, you should bet the size of the pot. If you have a good chance ofosing, consider calling the current pot. In the late position, you can call with hands that are marginally better than yours, or hands that have a less than 5% chance of winning.

If you are given the chance to play the early position for free, don’t. Instead, find a more strategic spot to sit at and watch the players. Be patient and wait for a decent hand. Since the play is more dictatorial at this point, pocket Queen/Jack or Ace/Jack would be a great hand to play from the early position. Though, a Queen/Jack can also work. The important thing to remember is your position is positional, so the pocket Queens can also be played from anywhere but if you’ve played pocket Queen from early position, you really want to have position on your opponent so you can maximize your combos.
